FBU National Championship – Team Seattle 2013 1st and 2nd Round
FBU Team Seattle – 6th Grade
After a hard fought battle in their first game against Team Oregon on Saturday morning, Team Seattle 6th graders came out on the losing end. They started a little slow, and it cost them, despite a posting strong finish and outscoring Team Oregon 8-6 in the 2nd half. They entered half time with a 20 point deficit, after dropping behind by two scores in the 1st quarter.
Their nemesis was big OR running back #2, who was so fast, I didn’t even get his name (Jaylen John). Despite many valiant efforts, he proved exceedingly difficult to bring down, breaking multiple tackles on several rushes. He ended up with 9 carries for 151 yards and 3 TDs.
The first round final score was Team Oregon 26, Team Seattle 8. Small consolation could be found in the fact that the little quackers and flat tails went on to eviscerate Team BC to the tune of 52-0 in the regional championship game on Sunday afternoon.
Proving that their selection was no fluke, Team Seattle pummeled a hapless Eastern WA / Northern ID squad into submission the following day, winning their consolation round game 46-6. It wasn’t even as close as the score indicated, with the E-WA/N-ID squad’s offense kept completely out of the end zone; the lone score came on a pick-6.
FBU Team Seattle – 7th Grade
Picked as one of the teams to beat from the outset, Team Seattle’s 7th grade iteration did nothing to dispel anyone’s confidence. The team posted two strong showings, winning their first round match up against Team Oregon 38-26, and setting up a round 2 match Sunday against other first round winner Team BC, who’d made quick work of Puget Sound.
NOTE: Puget Sound gave a good account of themselves against BC, considering they were hastily assembled due to the inability of E-WA/N-ID to field a 7th grade team. They had only 2 weeks practice time before the tournament kicked off. Even so, they were barely bested by the boys from the Great White North, falling 20-12.
Team Seattle 7th grade mercilessly flogged BC, shutting out the Canadians, and eventually winning in what may prove to be one of the largest margins of victory in the entire tournament. The final score was 68 – 0, propelling Team Seattle 7th graders south to Cali for their 3rfd and 4th round games next weekend.
FBU Team Seattle – 8th Grade
Another early favorite, the Seattle 8th graders did nothing to disappoint their supporters, busting out a truly one-sided first round victory over Team Oregon, to the tune of 60 – 15. The Team Seattle 8th graders out scored Oregon in the second half 32 – 0.
The beat down earned them the right to face the other first round victor, E-WA / N-ID, who spanked Team BC 47 – 13.
Sunday’s game wasn’t the blowout the Seattle boys enjoyed on Saturday, as could be expected by the score of both Saturday contests. Despite being put to the test, Seattle emerged victorious 26 – 16, also earning a trip to Sacramento on the 14th and 15th for rounds 3 and 4.
